In Elk County, Ridgway-based state police said Roger Davis of West Newton died at 2:10 p.m. Saturday when the lawn mower he was riding on Township Road 37 in Spring Creek Township was hit from behind by a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 driven by Paul B. McConville, 38, Sigel.
Davis, 55, was pronounced dead at the scene by Elk County Coroner Lou Radkowski.
Police were assisted by Ridgway Volunteer Fire Department and Ridgway Ambulance. The investigation continues.
A Mahaffey man was killed when his motorcycle hit a deer on Route 219 in Greenwood Township Saturday night.
Clearfield-based state police said Byron Miller, 62, Mahaffey, was driving his 2000 Honda Shadow south on Route 219. As he rounded a curve and he hit a deer that was standing in the middle of the road. The motorcycle continued down the left side of the highway for 90 feet before coming to rest. Miller was wearing a helmet. His motorcycle sustained moderate damage.
Police were assisted by the Grampian Fire Department, Curwensville Ambulance and Clearfield Fire Police.
In the third accident, a Karthaus woman was killed in a one-vehicle accident Sunday and a passenger sustained major injuries.
Clearfield-based state police said the accident occurred at 12:25 p.m. Sunday as Sherry Chesney, 67, Karthaus, was westbound on Route 879 one-tenth of a mile west of Frenchville Road in Covington Township.
Her 2005 Chevy Impala went off the right berm. She brought the vehicle back onto the road, then went onto the berm again before crossing both lanes and hitting a large tree.
She was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene.
Her passenger, Alfred Chesney Jr., was flown to Altoona Hospital.
Police were assisted by Karthaus Volunteer Fire Department, Karthaus Ambulance, Morris Township Volunteer Fire Department and Mo Valley EMS.
