BROOKVILLE - SAM is coming to Brookville. Service Access & Management, Inc. (SAM, Inc.), a not-for-profit human services company based in Reading, is occupying the old post office building on Barnett St., a block below Main St. The new office will have about 20 employees.
SAM manages the mental health programs for Jefferson and Clearfield counties. The county was removed from the case management aspect of mental health when a directive was received from the state suggesting outsourcing those operations. In 1997 SAM formed in Berks County and now services Schuykill, York, Adams, Huntingdon, Mifflin and Juniata counties in addition to Jefferson and Clearfield counties.
SAM, Inc. broke ground Tuesday on 3.2 acres of land on Beaver Drive in DuBois for the construction of a single story 15,000 square foot office building . The plans call for three office suites with SAM occupying two of the suites and renting the third floor.
The Clearfield/Jefferson Counties Mental Health and Mental Retardation (MHMR) board decided in April to seek a new facility. The move will offer a more convenient location and reduce rental costs.
SAM is in the process of relocating from Brockway to DuBois.
In April, the commissioners revealed that 63 percent of the people receiving services from Clearfield/Jefferson SAM, Inc. reside in Clearfield County while only 37 percent live in Jefferson County.
SAM, Inc. also rents space in Clearfield to provide easy access for people living in that area. During the construction, other SAM employees will be working out of a building on Jeffers St. in DuBois.
Commissioner Jeff Pisarcik said Tuesday that the construction of the new building is three months behind schedule.
